Of all the plumbing problems that you may have in your home in Los Angeles, the most common is a clogged drain. Clogged drains can happen in your kitchen, in your bathroom, in your utility sink or dishwasher – we have so much water coming in and out of our homes in Los Angeles, it’s no surprise that sometimes we need drain cleaning. Maybe your toilet isn’t flushing and draining as quickly as it used to. Perhaps in the sink you have to wait a while after turning off the water until the sink is empty again. There can be complicated reasons for a drain that is clogged, or hopefully it’s just something simple. So can you do the drain cleaning in Los Angeles yourself? Or will you call a Los Angeles plumber to do the drain cleaning for you?

First Steps – Try it at Home

The most likely problem is that you have a bit of build up in your pipes and possibly a chunk of something that just can’t move through the pipe until it breaks down. The first thing to notice is whether or not the problem of drains draining slowly is happening throughout your home. If you simply have one sink or it’s just the drain in the shower, you can attempt to solve the problem yourself. But if it’s a problem throughout your home, you should call a plumber. The problem is probably farther down the line and may require major repairs.

Drain Cleaning Home Remedies

One common way that people attempt to clean their own drains at home is with a bit of baking soda and vinegar or lemon juice. One or two cups of baking soda are poured down the drain and then the same amount of kitchen vinegar or lemon juice is poured on top. The reaction between the two is allowed to clean the drain for about 15 minutes, and then you flush it with boiling water a couple of times. If you simply have soap residue build-up, this will probably solve the problem.

If the problem persists, you can try to flush the drain again with the same process. Many people who don’t mind serious chemicals will also go for something a bit more toxic in an effort to clean the drain. But it’s likely that you will need a plumber to assess the problem if a simple home remedy doesn’t do the kind of drain cleaning that you needed.
